It isn’t until we work on an event which isn’t a wedding that we realise quite how much prep and planning goes into a wedding day. One off events like this beautiful dinner party I flowered in Chelsea last Autumn gives me the opportunity to step away from the intensity of a wedding and to go back to what I really love about floral design; sourcing products and putting together colour palettes.
This beautiful client asked me to create the florals for her birthday celebration and, as is so often the case, gave me a colour palette and then let me have free reign from there. Everything we used for these arrangements was grown here in England. We chose giant, pale coffee coloured Cafe au Lait Dahlias and another Dahlia variety in a deep burgundy tone, creamy Margaret Merrill roses, dancing chocolate Cosmos and sweeping Jasmine trails. This was such a beautiful, sunny, chilled out day and the lovely Emily Kelly came along to capture me during set up and putting the finishing touches to the arrangements.
Planning for a smaller event like this takes much less time than the usual 12 to 18 months we put into planning the florals for a wedding. The majority of these arrangements were nearly completed the day before the event, and the finishing touches added in situ. Hopefully you enjoy these images not only of the flowers but of me, too.
